In a recent tweet, Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, thanked the Hyderabad Police for their efforts in arresting a former Coinbase agent allegedly involved in a high-profile cyberattack earlier this year. The incident, which occurred in May, resulted in hackers demanding a $20 million ransom and potentially costing the company up to $400 million. According to the company, hackers bribed contractors or employees outside the US to steal sensitive customer data. Coinbase refused to pay the ransom and instead promised to compensate affected customers and cooperate with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to justice. Coinbase has also filed charges against a Brooklyn man accused of running a long-running impersonation scheme targeting Coinbase customers. To avoid falling victim to similar scams, Coinbase advises its customers to remain vigilant and not share sensitive information such as passwords, 2FA codes, or transfer assets to suspicious addresses. The company's commitment to working with law enforcement to bring bad actors to justice is evident in Armstrong's statement, 'We have zero tolerance for bad behavior and will continue to work with law enforcement to bring bad actors to justice.'
