Florida is in for a dramatic temperature drop as an Arctic cold front sweeps through the state at the end of December. The National Weather Service predicts the cold front will begin moving into parts of Florida on Monday and continue through Tuesday, Dec. 31, bringing temperatures as low as 31 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas. After a week of unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures in the mid- to upper-70s in northern parts of the state and the upper 70s and low 80s in central and southern regions, the cold snap is expected to end abruptly. The cold front is part of a larger weather system sweeping south from the Northeast and Great Lakes regions, which have already seen snowy and icy conditions. While Florida will not see snow, the temperature drop could be significant, particularly overnight. Residents in northern and inland areas are advised to prepare for colder mornings and possible frost as the New Year approaches. Although officials have not issued statewide advisories, residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and take precautions if temperatures dip close to freezing, especially for pets, plants, and vulnerable populations.
