US immigration lawyer Brad Bernstein is sounding the alarm for couples applying for Green Cards under the current rules. According to Bernstein, a partner at Spar & Bernstein, immigration officials are placing less emphasis on marital status and more on whether couples actually live together. In a recent video shared on Facebook, Bernstein warned that couples who are married but living apart face a high risk of denial. He explained that immigration officials are trained to look for one key requirement: cohabitation. "Immigration only cares about one thing when assessing marriage-based Green Card applications: do you live together as husband and wife?" Bernstein said. "They don’t care about work-related travel or temporary job postings. They don’t care about being a travelling nurse or a truck driver who comes home once a month.\
