In a recent interview, Hunter Biden expressed his disappointment with his father's handling of the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. The former US president's pullout from the country was marred by a fatal bombing that killed 13 American Marines and over 170 civilians. Hunter described the withdrawal as a 'deadly mess' and an 'obvious failure,' stating that 13 Marines lost their lives and there was a better way to do it. Although he acknowledged that mistakes can be made by any president, he placed the ultimate responsibility on the commander-in-chief. Hunter's criticism comes as the US continues to grapple with the aftermath of the withdrawal. The Biden administration allowed approximately 200,000 Afghans to enter the country, including one individual who was recently charged with first-degree murder for killing a National Guard member in Washington, D.C. Some have questioned the vetting process of these refugees, with Vice President JD Vance recalling criticism he faced for speaking out against the policy in 2021. In contrast to the Biden administration's handling of the withdrawal, former President Donald Trump had criticized the move, labeling it as 'gross incompetence.' The withdrawal also led to the loss of US military bases in Afghanistan, which Trump argued still posed a defense risk to the US due to their proximity to China. The controversy surrounding the withdrawal remains a contentious issue in American politics.
