The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that regular payments will continue in January 2026, marking the first month beneficiaries will receive cost-of-living adjusted (COLA) amounts. For those who started receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), retirement benefits, or survivor benefits before May 1997, payments began on January 2. Beneficiaries can expect a 2.8% increase in their monthly benefits, resulting in an average monthly rise of $56. The SSA has published detailed information on the COLA, including the exact amounts recipients will receive. Payment schedules for January are based on birth dates. Those born between January 1 and 10 will receive their payments on January 14. Payments for recipients born between January 11 and 20 will be made on January 21, while those born between January 21 and 31 will receive their payments on January 28. The SSA has released its full payment schedule for 2026, which can be found on their official website or calendar. This schedule takes into account the late start to the month due to January beginning on a Thursday.
