In a sudden turn of events, Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene has taken the reins of Nick Reiner's defense team after his previous counsel, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the case. Greene, a member of the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, has been tasked with representing Reiner, the 32-year-old son of late Hollywood director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, who is accused of stabbing his parents to death on December 14, 2025. Greene assumed her new role after Jackson's abrupt departure on January 7, resulting in a delayed arraignment until February 23. During the brief court appearance, Greene spoke to her client for the first time, but declined to elaborate on the defense strategy. The case is particularly sensitive as Reiner is expected to plead not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder, which could expose him to life in prison without parole or even the death penalty if prosecutors pursue it. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman expressed confidence in securing a conviction, stating that a jury will convict Reiner 'beyond a reasonable doubt' of the brutal murders of his parents. Greene noted that such transitions are not uncommon, and that she has had no contact with the Reiner family, who were unaware of the change in counsel. As the case unfolds, Greene will be responsible for navigating the complex legal landscape and defending Reiner against the serious charges.
