Jeffrey R. Holland, a highly influential leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has passed away at the age of 85. According to church officials, Holland died surrounded by his family on December 27, at approximately 3:15 am MST. Although the official cause of death has not been confirmed, he was hospitalized with complications related to kidney disease, as reported by FOX13. The LDS Church had previously announced on Christmas Eve that Holland was hospitalized. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Terry Holland, who passed away in July 2023. Holland is survived by their three children, 13 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. Throughout his illustrious career, Holland held various prominent roles, including president of Brigham Young University from 1980 to 1989 and commissioner of the Church Educational System. He also served as president of the American Association of Presidents of Independent Colleges and Universities and was a member of the NCAA Presidents Commission, as reported by KSL TV. Elder Quentin L. Cook, a colleague and friend, remembered Holland for his exceptional talent in teaching the gospel and his profound spiritual depth. Holland's passing marks a significant loss for the LDS community, where he played a pivotal role as the second-longest-serving member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
