David Dhawan has collaborated with Govinda in 17 films, with most being major box-office successes. However, many have complained about Govinda's tardiness. In an episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show, Dhawan defended Govinda, saying, 'People say he comes late to sets, but tell me who doesn't arrive late these days? He arrives, completes his work and then leaves.'
Dhawan recalled an instance where Govinda performed a four-page scene in one take for the film Partner. Govinda did all kinds of acrobatics in the scene and even asked Dhawan to edit it however he wanted.
The duo worked together in several successful films, including Shola Aur Shabnam, Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, and Biwi No. 1. Dhawan is now awaiting the release of his upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, starring Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur.
