Maharashtra is celebrating its 66th Foundation Day today, with multiple cultural activities and events planned across Mumbai and Pune. Indian folk artist Nandesh Vatsala Vithal Umap is performing Powada in Mumbai's Byculla and Vasai, a traditional Marathi ballad that traces its history to over 750 years.
Representing an artistic heritage from his father, the late Shri. Loksahir Vitthal Umap, Nandesh Umap has taken this work to a global scale, gaining larger recognition due to the digital world.
Other events include dance workshops in Pune and Mumbai, led by Sarangi Avhad, to celebrate Marathi folk dances and music. Samrajya Dhol Tasha Pathak have also performed for the occasion, highlighting the importance of preserving cultural heritage.
Heritage walks in Mumbai and Pune are also being organized, showcasing the contribution of the "Marathi Manoos" in making Mumbai a great city and the role of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement in creating a Marathi-speaking state.
