Hollywood star Sebastian Stan has spoken out against censorship and Donald Trump's attempts to stall the premiere of The Apprentice at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Stan, who played a young Trump in the film, recalled the drama surrounding the movie's premiere, saying that Trump's team tried to halt it just three days before the festival.

The Apprentice, directed by Ali Abbasi, chronicles the rise of a young Trump as a real estate baron in 80s' New York, and focuses on his relationship with his mentor, disgraced lawyer Roy Cohn.

Stan's latest film, Fjord, opened in Cannes on Monday night and received a 10-minute standing ovation, but he used the opportunity to speak out against the issues he believes are plaguing America.

'It's just not a laughing matter, to be honest. It isn't. I think we're (America) in a really, really bad place. I really do,' Stan said.
