Tom Cruise's iconic Top Gun is set to re-release in Indian theatres to mark its 40th anniversary. Paramount Pictures announced the news on Thursday, revealing a special one-week-only theatrical run starting May 15.
The 1986 blockbuster, directed by the late Tony Scott, followed a class of elite Navy pilots as they competed to be the best of the best. The film's success catapulted Tom Cruise to top box-office draw status in the 80s.
The sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, released in 2022, earned over $1.5 billion worldwide and cemented Cruise's status as a Hollywood legend. The film follows Maverick as he trains a new detachment of pilots for a high-stakes mission.
A third instalment of the franchise has been announced, with Tom Cruise set to return as Maverick.
