A Haitian asylum seeker, Daphy Michel, 31, was found unresponsive at a Pittsburgh bus shelter just days after being released from jail and placed in a federal immigration monitoring program.

Here are five key things to know about the case:

1. Discovery at a bus shelter - Michel was found on March 2 by maintenance workers at a Pittsburgh bus shelter, who attempted lifesaving measures before she was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition.

2. Dismissed charges - Michel had been detained for nearly six months on misdemeanor charges of harassment and threats, which were dismissed on February 26, clearing the way for her release.

3. ICE monitoring program - Instead of being released outright, Michel was placed into the Alternatives to Detention program, which requires electronic monitoring and supervision.

4. Unclear timeline - The period between her release and death remains confusing, with immigration attorney Joseph Murphy stating that the in-between part is unclear.

5. Pending asylum case - Michel's asylum case was still pending, with a hearing scheduled for April 16, and her brother stating that she came to the United States hoping for safety and a better future.
