An Auburn University student, James Weston Higginbotham, has been found deceased in a mountainous region near Kyoto, Japan.
According to his family, Weston ventured out to explore alone on May 29 and was reported missing.
Extensive search teams scoured the area for over a week, with authorities suspecting he may have ventured out to investigate nearby hiking paths and disabled his GPS.
The family had traveled to Japan to commemorate one of their children achieving straight A's during high school.
In a heartfelt message, the Higginbotham family expressed their gratitude to everyone for their assistance and support, but also asked for privacy as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
