The plane, a Cessna 172, was a single-engine, four-seat aircraft commonly used for flight training and private travel. It was registered to American Airman Inc, a flight school based on Long Island, and had departed from Long Island MacArthur Airport.
The cause of the crash remains unknown, but a search and rescue operation has been launched. Two people were reportedly on board, and the aircraft was 'full of fuel' at the time of the crash. Units are on the scene, searching for the plane.
