A Florida man, Michael Lee King, is set to be executed for the rape and murder of a young mother who called 911 while tied up in his car in 2008.
The 54-year-old was convicted of first-degree murder, sexual battery, and kidnapping in the killing of 21-year-old Denise Amber Lee.
Court records show King abducted Lee outside her home, took her to his house where he bound and raped her, and later shot her in the face and buried her.
Lee managed to call 911 while bound in King's car, begging for her life so she could see her husband and children again.
The case led to the passage of the Denise Amber Lee Act, which provides better training for 911 operators, and the creation of the Denise Amber Lee Foundation to promote training and raise public awareness nationwide.
King's execution is Florida's fourth scheduled for 2026, following a record 19 executions last year in the state.
