Iran launched an attack on the Diego Garcia US-UK joint military base in the Indian Ocean, but did not hit it, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

A US warship fired an SM-3 interceptor at the incoming missile, but it's unclear if the interceptor was successful.

The distance between Iran and Diego Garcia has sparked discussions about the striking capabilities of Iranian missiles, with some noting it's far beyond any previously known range.

The straight-line distance between the two locations is approximately 3,795 to 3,800 kilometers.

Iran's ballistic missile arsenal is believed to have around 2,500 missiles, with mid-range missiles capable of traveling between 1,000 and 3,000 km.

The attack came hours after the UK announced it would allow the US to use the base to launch strikes on Iran, amid the ongoing war.
