Iran has confirmed the death of Ali Larijani, one of Tehran's most prominent figures in the ongoing war against the US and Israel, in an Israeli strike aimed at weakening the Iranian leadership.
Larijani, 67, was considered one of the most powerful figures in Iran since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death, and was seen as a key figure in Tehran's battle for survival.
He was targeted by 'American and Zionist regime fighter jets' while at his daughter's house in the Pardis district east of Tehran, according to Iran's Fars news agency.
Israel said it had 'eliminated' Larijani in an overnight raid that also killed Gen. Gholam Reza Soleimani, the commander of the country's paramilitary Basij unit.
Larijani was a former parliamentary speaker and senior policy adviser who advised the late Khamenei on strategy in nuclear talks with the Trump administration.
