President Donald Trump has shared a 2020 tweet from former countering terrorism chief Joe Kent, who resigned over Iran war, advocating for military action against Iran.

Kent's tweet, dated January 8, 2020, stated: 'We should not sit and wait for the next attack, wipe Iran’s ballistic capability out and get our troops out of Iraq – they are only targets now.'

Trump's repost aimed to mitigate the controversy surrounding Kent's resignation, which he disclosed in a harsh open letter to Trump, emphasizing his disapproval of the joint U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

Kent, a former Green Beret and CIA operative, conveyed to Trump in his resignation letter that Iran 'posed no imminent threat' to the US and that the war was started due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.

Trump called Kent's exit 'a good thing' during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, stating, 'I always thought he was weak on security… When I read his statement, I realized that it’s a good thing that he’s out.'
