US President Donald Trump has strongly disapproved of the resignation of Joe Kent, the director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, who had differing views on the conflict with Iran.

Trump called Kent 'very weak on security' and stated that the departure was justified due to the counterterrorism chief's stance on Iran, which he deemed a 'tremendous threat'.

Kent had resigned in a letter to Trump, citing that he 'cannot support sending the next generation off to fight and die in a war that serves no benefit to the American people.'

In his letter, Kent also stated that Washington initiated the war 'due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.'

Trump responded by saying that officials who do not believe an assault on Iran is crucial for the national security of the United States are 'not smart people' or 'not savvy people.'
