The United Farm Workers (UFW) has announced it will skip this year's Cesar Chavez Day events due to 'serious' allegations against the late labor leader.
The union, co-founded by Chavez in 1962, has not provided specific details but stated that the allegations involve 'abuse of young women or minors.'
The UFW is working to set up a formal, independent process to hear from those who may have been harmed and has established a confidential, external channel for victims to come forward.
Cesar Chavez Day, observed on March 31, is a state holiday in California, Arizona, Washington, and Utah, honoring the civil rights icon who co-founded the UFW with Dolores Huerta in the 1960s.
