As tensions escalate between the US, Iran, and Israel, a small Iranian island has emerged as a key target in the conflict. Kharg Island, a crucial oil export terminal in the Persian Gulf, is responsible for around 90% of Iran's crude oil exports.
The US has considered taking control of the island, which boasts a massive loading capacity of 7 million barrels a day, according to reports. However, analysts say seizing control would require ground troops, a move the US has not yet ruled out.
Iran's economy is heavily reliant on the island, making it a prime target for the US and Israel. Despite being repeatedly targeted in the past, including during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s, Iran has continued to export oil through Kharg.
As the conflict intensifies, the fate of Kharg Island remains uncertain, with the US President hinting at the possibility of deploying ground troops 'for a very good reason'. The island's strategic importance has put it at the center of the ongoing war in West Asia.
