France's foreign minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, has expressed concerns about the ongoing conflict in West Asia, stating that there is no obvious end in sight. The conflict has been ongoing since October 7, 2023, and has resulted in significant loss of life and destruction.

Barrot made his comments after meeting with Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar in Tel Aviv, where he also visited Lebanon. He emphasized the need for a lasting solution to the conflict, but acknowledged that there is no short-term way out.

The conflict has been fueled by the 2023 attack inside Israel by Palestinian group Hamas, which killed 1,200 people, and Israel's subsequent military action in Gaza, which has killed around 70,000 people, most of them civilians.

Recent developments have seen Israel intensify its operations in Lebanon, with reports of the use of banned white phosphorus bombs. France's President Emmanuel Macron has spoken with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of ongoing efforts towards de-escalation.

Iran has stepped up its attacks on oil and gas facilities across the Gulf in retaliation to an Israeli strike on South Pars, the Iranian section of the world's largest gas field. US President Donald Trump has warned that America would 'massively blow up the entirety' of Iran's gas field if it continues attacking its neighbours.
