In a significant move to boost India's electronics manufacturing sector, the Centre has cleared 22 new projects worth ₹41,863 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). This brings the total number of approved projects to 46, with the new proposals expected to generate production worth ₹2,58,152 crore and create 33,791 direct jobs. The latest approvals, part of the third tranche of the ECMS, cover manufacturing across 11 different product segments, including components used in mobile phones, telecom equipment, and automobiles. The projects will be set up across eight states, reinforcing the government's focus on geographically balanced industrial growth. The ECMS, launched in April 2025 with a budget outlay of ₹22,919 crore, has received a strong response from investors, with 249 applications proposing total investments of ₹1.15 lakh crore and potential employment generation for 1.42 lakh people. The latest approvals more than double the combined production value of the first two tranches, which were worth ₹1,09,517 crore. The approved products include bare components, sub-assemblies, and supply chain items, showcasing the government's efforts to expand the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. An official announcement of the approvals is scheduled to be made on Friday.
