A heart-wrenching situation unfolded at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport when Namita, carrying her father's mortal remains, was left stranded after her IndiGo flight to Delhi was cancelled without prior notice. The cancellation has jeopardised her plans to reach Delhi and then board a connecting flight to Dehradun, the nearest airport to Haridwar, where her father's asthi visarjan (ash immersion) in the Ganga is scheduled for tomorrow. Namita was initially supposed to fly from Bengaluru to Delhi, then board a connecting flight to Dehradun, and finally reach Haridwar. However, with no alternative arrangements offered, she was left with no choice but to book a flight with another airline, which would have cost around ₹60,000 per person, an amount she couldn't afford. The IndiGo flight cancellation has not only left Namita in a difficult situation but also highlights the airline's operational disruptions. On Friday, IndiGo cancelled all its departure flights from Delhi's IGI airport till midnight, affecting over 1,000 passengers. The cancellations have been linked to the new flight duty rules that came into force on November 1, which IndiGo is struggling to implement. The aviation regulator, DGCA, has assured that IndiGo is working to restore normalised operations by February 10, 2026. Meanwhile, Namita's plea for help has fallen on deaf ears. Appealing directly to authorities, she urged the government to intervene and arrange for her to reach Haridwar in time for the crucial ritual. "I request the government to arrange something for me. My father's asthi visarjan in Ganga ji is very urgent," she said, visibly distressed. The situation has left many wondering if the government will intervene in time to help Namita and countless others affected by the IndiGo flight cancellations.
