The Telangana BJP chief, N Ramchander Rao, was placed under house arrest to prevent him from joining a protest against the defeat of the 131st constitutional amendment bill in Parliament.

Scores of BJP workers were detained and released later in the afternoon, as they attempted to march to the chief minister's residence.

Rao alleged that the Congress was an 'anti-women' party, adopting double standards by supporting the Women's Reservation Bill in 2023 but voting against it.

He dismissed the Congress's arguments as mere distractions, and urged women of Telangana to remember the 'betrayal'.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu took part in a protest rally, describing Friday as a 'dark day in the history of Indian democracy'.
