A heated debate has erupted over Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's decision to sign a Bangladeshi cricketer, Mustafizur Rahman, for his Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The move has sparked outrage among some BJP leaders and Hindu spiritual figures, who have accused Khan of being a 'traitor' for investing in a player from a country with strained relations with India. BJP leader Sangeet Som has been leading the charge against Khan, saying that the actor is 'cruel' for including a Bangladeshi player in his team despite the country's persecution of Hindus. Som has also threatened that Mustafizur Rahman will not be able to play in India 'at any cost'. However, Congress leaders have come to Khan's defense, describing Som's comments as an 'attack on India's pluralism'. Spiritual leaders, including Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, have also weighed in on the issue, saying that Bangladeshi cricketers should speak out against the persecution of Hindus in their country. The controversy comes against the backdrop of tensions between India and Bangladesh, which have escalated in recent weeks following a series of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. In the latest incident, a Hindu businessman was brutally attacked and set on fire in Shariatpur district. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will ultimately decide whether to allow Mustafizur Rahman to play in India, but the debate has highlighted the complex issues surrounding India-Bangladesh relations and the role of sports in international diplomacy. In related news, Hindu spiritual leaders have demanded that the management of KKR remove Mustafizur Rahman from the team and redirect his reported remuneration to families affected by the violence in Bangladesh. Congress MP Tariq Anwar has also weighed in on the issue, saying that permission from the local cricket board is necessary before allowing foreign players to participate in the IPL.
