The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for the upcoming assembly polls in four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry with a two-pronged strategy. The party plans to strengthen its organisational structure and launch an extensive outreach programme in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. According to sources, the BJP aims to streamline its units and ensure a seamless chain of command, given the significant growth in membership over the last decade. The party now claims to have 140 million members. New state presidents and office bearers have been appointed in several states, marking a transition from the old guard to younger leaders. This has led to a renewed focus on ensuring continuity and coordination. The party is also expected to announce the elevation of working president Nitin Nabin to national president after January 15, alongside a new team of national office bearers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah, party president JP Nadda, and senior ministers are set to travel to the poll-bound states and UT from January. Shah, the party's chief strategist, has already set the tone for the upcoming elections. The BJP plans to dispatch leaders from across the country to these key states, with leaders handpicked based on organisational skills, caste dynamics, and electoral experience. Election in-charges have already been announced for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Assam. Each state and UT will have specific poll planks, with the overall focus on development. In West Bengal, the BJP will focus on law and order and corruption, while in Kerala, it will aim to expose irregularities in administration. In Tamil Nadu, the election campaign will be mounted on administration, cultural, and national issues. In Assam, the BJP is in a strong position but faces concerns such as anti-incumbency and voter fatigue. The party's strategy is designed to address these concerns and leverage its strengths in each state. With the polls just around the corner, the BJP is gearing up for a fierce battle in these key states.
