In a significant victory for Indian law enforcement, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully repatriated Aman Bhainswal, a key member of Lawrence Bishnoi's notorious gang, from the United States. Bhainswal, a self-proclaimed sharpshooter, had fled to the US in 2024, evading justice for serious crimes including murder, rioting, and conspiracy in Haryana. Bhainswal's extradition is a result of a coordinated effort between the CBI and international partners. The agency has been working tirelessly to bring back 47 fugitives in 2025, with a focus on geolocating terrorists, gangsters, and economic offenders. According to CBI officials, India has a total of 388 pending extradition requests with various countries, with 957 Interpol Red Notices issued against fugitives across different categories. Of these, 231 are related to CBI cases, 130 to National Investigation Agency (NIA) probes, and 21 to Enforcement Directorate (ED) cases. The CBI's Global Operations Centre (GOC) has been instrumental in bringing back 29 fugitives in 2023 and 30 in 2024, in collaboration with various agencies and state police forces. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has emphasized the need for agencies to focus on extradition efforts and create dedicated units and prisons for fugitives. This development comes as India continues to strengthen its international partnerships to combat transnational crime and bring back fugitives wanted by Indian authorities. The CBI's success in repatriating Aman Bhainswal serves as a testament to the agency's commitment to upholding justice and protecting national security.
