Congress lawmaker Gaurav Gogoi accused the government of using the 33% women's quota in legislative bodies as a cover for delimitation and political gains, rather than genuine representation.
Gogoi stated that the Congress's demand remains the same as in 2023, and the quota should be implemented based on the present Lok Sabha strength, independent of delimitation.
He questioned the proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats to 850, citing a lack of government or Parliamentary reports.
Gogoi claimed the government intends to weaponise delimitation for political gain, similar to Assam and Jammu and Kashmir.
Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker Tejaswi Surya praised the bills as historic for women's rights, stating they will fast-track the quota implementation by 2029 and provide tangible representation in national building.
