Senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy resigned from the Karnataka cabinet on Friday, citing disappointment over portfolio allocation. Reddy had joined the new expanded cabinet led by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar two days prior but expressed his discontent over being denied the Bengaluru Development Department ministry, which he had been promised earlier.
Reddy, a 53-year veteran of the Congress party, stated that he had been 'humiliated time and again' and could no longer tolerate the situation. He emphasized that he intended to continue as a party member and legislator.
Responding to Reddy's resignation, Chief Minister Shivakumar downplayed concerns, describing Reddy as a 'great friend' and indicating that the issue would be resolved.
Reddy's departure from the ministry comes as political parties prepare for the anticipated Greater Bengaluru Authority elections, a contest expected to assume considerable importance in the state capital.
