Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary MA Baby has sought clarification from the Congress over Rahul Gandhi's allegations of a BJP-Left understanding during the Kerala assembly elections campaign.
The INDIA bloc meeting, scheduled for June 8, is being closely watched, with several opposition leaders expected to attend.
Baby has opted out of the meeting, citing prior engagements in Kerala, and will send party lawmaker John Brittas instead.
In a letter to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Baby questioned Gandhi's repeated attacks on the CPI(M) during the election campaign, saying they were not stray remarks but the centerpiece of the Congress's political campaign.
The CPI(M) general secretary also recalled how the INDIA group was constituted as a broad platform to fight the BJP, saying that from its first meeting in June 2023, the CPI(M) has worked sincerely to see such a united platform emerge.
Baby maintained that the CPI(M) will fully cooperate with the INDIA bloc in the fight against the Narendra Modi government, but will not tolerate distortions and attacks on its commitment to secularism and communal harmony.
