New Delhi : The Capital continued to shiver under a blanket of cold, with temperatures plummeting to 16.7°C on Wednesday, two degrees below normal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, warning of similar conditions for the next few days. The IMD classified two stations, Palam and Lodhi Road, as experiencing 'cold day' conditions, with maximum temperatures dipping by 4.8°C and 4.7°C from normal, respectively. The shallow fog that persisted at upper levels, combined with icy-cold northwesterly winds, kept the mercury low. While the maximum temperature is expected to rise by a degree on Thursday, the overall forecast remains unchanged. Met officials predict moderate to dense fog in the Capital and upper-level fog across the Indo-Gangetic Plain region on Thursday. Experts warn that the cold will intensify in north India until January 15, with single-digit maximums expected in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and parts of UP. Navdeep Dahiya, an amateur weatherman, predicts a maximum of 12-15°C for Delhi, with the minimum temperature expected to stay between 3-4°C. As the chilly days persist, residents are advised to stay warm and prepared for the biting cold. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
