A prolonged cold wave is sweeping across northern India, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing multiple warnings for the next week. Dense fog and freezing temperatures are expected to persist over northwest India and Bihar, severely affecting daily life. In the past 24 hours, visibility dropped to near zero in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam. The IMD has warned of cold day conditions in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with cold wave conditions expected in pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Meanwhile, a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to bring heavy rain and rough seas to southern states, particularly Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea as wind speeds may reach 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph. The IMD has also predicted a gradual rise in temperatures in central India and Maharashtra over the next few days, while northwest and east India are expected to remain cold. The minimum temperature in several regions has already fallen below 0 degrees Celsius, with the lowest temperature recorded at 2.5 degrees Celsius in Sikar, Rajasthan.
