The owners of the Goa nightclub, Birch by Romeo Lane, where 25 people lost their lives in a devastating fire, have been handed over to the Goa police after being deported from Thailand. Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, the brothers who fled to Phuket within hours of the tragedy, were seen being escorted by police at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Wednesday morning. The video footage, shared by news agency ANI, shows the brothers with their faces covered and surrounded by police officers. This comes after a court in Delhi denied them anticipatory bail, paving the way for their extradition to Goa. The Luthra brothers were detained in Thailand on the basis of a request from the Indian government, which had issued a Blue Notice via Interpol in connection with the December 6 fire. The Indian Embassy had issued emergency certificates after their passports were impounded and later cancelled by the ministry of external affairs. The police have registered an FIR against the brothers, charging them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide, endangering life and personal safety, and negligent conduct with fire or combustible matter. Six people, including five managerial staff and a business partner, have been named in the case so far. A seventh person, a British property owner, is also being hunted by the police for his alleged role in the tragedy. The brothers will face justice in Goa, where they will be questioned further about the tragic incident. The police are working to bring all those involved to account for their actions.
