India has called for safe and unimpeded transit of merchant vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway used to transport half of India's oil imports.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar represented India at the Asia Zero-Emission Community (AZEC) Plus meeting, where Japan unveiled a new initiative to support countries hit by fuel supply disruptions.

The Partnership on Wide Energy and Resources Resilience (POWERR) Asia will provide financial cooperation of about $10 billion to Asian countries, including India, to strengthen supply systems and secure sea lanes.

India is working with like-minded partners to develop supply chain resilience, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizing the need to keep the Strait of Hormuz 'open, safe and secure' during a phone call with US President Donald Trump.
