Passengers with the same PNR number will now be seated next to each other, as the Indian government announced new guidelines for airlines to enhance passenger experience.

The government has directed airlines to ensure at least 60% of seats on every flight are available for booking without any extra charge, promoting fair access.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation prioritizes passenger facilitation, with initiatives like UDAN Yatri Cafés, Flybrary, and free Wi-Fi at airports.

The Centre has issued directives to airlines, including:

  • No extra charge: 60% of seats to be allocated free of charge.
  • Booked together, seated together: Passengers on the same PNR to be seated together.
  • Facilitation of sports equipment, musical instruments, and pets.
  • Strict adherence to passenger rights framework in case of delays, cancellations, and denied boarding.
  • Prominent display of passengers' rights.
  • Clear communication of passenger entitlements in regional languages.

The new measures come as a relief for air travellers, who have faced repeated flight disruptions due to the US-Iran war and wider conflict in the Middle East.
