The Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia has been designated as a Ramsar site, marking India's 100th such site. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the feat, emphasizing India's commitment to protecting natural surroundings and wetlands.

Modi highlighted the significance of community participation, science, and innovation in conserving and rejuvenating wetlands, which are crucial for preserving biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.

India is a party to the 1971 Ramsar Convention, which aims to conserve and manage wetlands of international importance.

In related news, the Union environment minister and Delhi's chief minister inaugurated 18 'Namo Oxygen Parks' across the city to combat air pollution and expand the green cover.

They also launched environmental initiatives under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, which aims to strengthen urban greening, improve air quality, and promote community-led environmental stewardship.
