India may soon find itself navigating delicate talks with the US and Iran as the US has announced it will not extend waivers allowing countries to purchase Russian and Iranian energy without facing US sanctions.

The waivers on Russian oil allowed India to continue securing additional oil amid the crisis, with New Delhi's crude oil purchases from Russia more than tripling to 5.3 billion euros in March.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to visit India next month to hold meetings with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in an attempt to further strengthen ties between the two nations.

US President Donald Trump has claimed that the US has more oil than the two largest oil economies combined, and has offered to supply India with the "best" and "sweetest" oil and gas.
