Indore, India - The city's water crisis deepened as 18 families received compensation cheques from the government, but the actual death toll remains disputed. The administration has confirmed at least six deaths, while others await post-mortem reports. The crisis began on December 29, after a 60-year-old resident died from consuming contaminated tap water. Test results revealed a cocktail of deadly pathogens, including E coli, Salmonella, and Vibrio cholerae bacteria. One family, the Likhars, received the compensation after their father, Arvind, died shortly after consuming the contaminated water. His daughter, Mehak, expressed frustration that the administration delayed acting on the outbreak, leading to her father's death. "My father could have been saved if the administration had acted timely. We lost everything due to contaminated water," she said. Her uncle added, "Arvind was the only earning member of the family. Now, how will they live with this ₹2 lakh aid?
