Karnataka CM Urges Swift Action to Protect Stranded Indians in Middle East Amid Escalating Tensions

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing deep concern over the safety of Kannadigas and other Indians stranded in the Middle East due to escalating tensions in the region. The recent airspace restrictions and NOTAMs issued by multiple West Asian countries have disrupted international flight operations, leaving thousands of Indians, particularly in major transit hubs like Dubai, stranded. Siddaramaiah has urged the government to take immediate action to safeguard the well-being of these individuals and their families. In his letter, he has suggested five key measures to ensure their safety, including a strengthened diplomatic outreach, a repatriation preparedness framework, a dedicated national coordination mechanism, an integrated registration and information system, and passenger protection protocols. The Karnataka CM has also assured that his government is fully committed to cooperating with the Centre to ensure the safe return of stranded citizens. He has activated the State Emergency Operations Centre and all district centres to function round-the-clock and liaise with Union authorities to provide timely assistance. The situation in the Middle East remains volatile, with a full-scale conflict erupting after a major military offensive launched by the US and Israel on February 28. The conflict has resulted in mounting casualties and widespread strikes, with world leaders and international bodies pressing for urgent de-escalation to prevent a wider regional war. Siddaramaiah's letter to PM Modi comes at a critical juncture, highlighting the need for a swift, coordinated, and compassionate national response to safeguard the lives of Indian nationals in the region. He emphasized that India's vibrant diaspora in West Asia, including thousands of Kannadigas, has long contributed to the nation's economic strength and global engagement, and it is essential to reaffirm the unwavering commitment of the Republic of India to every Kannadiga and every Indian national, wherever they may be.
