DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi expressed opposition's desire for clarity from Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday's calculations for seat increases in Southern states. Shah stated that 50% of seats will be increased across states in India.

The Lok Sabha will take a decision on three key bills, including increasing women's quota in Parliament and expanding the number of seats, at 4 pm today after several hours of debate.

The bills, tabled by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, propose to increase the size of the Lok Sabha, enable delimitation based on the 2011 Census, and allow reservation for women to be implemented based on this delimitation.

Opposition members, including DMK and Congress MPs, have alleged that Southern states will be disproportionately impacted if the bill is passed in its current form.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah sought to allay concerns, stating that while there would be a 50% increase in seats, the relative share of Southern states in the total would also rise.
