A significant arms haul has been made on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, where 48 high-tech weapons, including US and Israeli-made firearms, were recovered from an arms dump belonging to the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The discovery suggests the Maoists have been modernizing their arsenal, with sophisticated equipment that can target security forces' helicopters and drones, according to Telangana police officials. The seized arsenal includes a US-made Colt rifle, an Israel-made Tavor CQB weapon, and eight AK-47 rifles, among other firearms. The police are investigating how the Maoists acquired these weapons, suspecting that many were looted from security forces during ambushes. The surrender of Maoist commander Badse Deva on January 3 led to the discovery of the arms dump. Deva, who revealed that the police had found the dump based on a diary recovered from him, admitted that the Maoist central committee had failed to provide strategic direction and take timely decisions in the face of intensified counter-insurgency operations. Deva also disclosed that the party's central committee had failed to provide decisive leadership, leading to increased encounters and surrenders. He stated that he had not met senior committee members in recent times and that surviving Maoist cadres would take their own decisions regarding their future. The recovery of the high-tech arms cache is seen as a significant blow to the Maoist movement, which has been weakened by the aggressive offensive launched by the Union government under 'Operation Kagar'. The operation has led to increased encounters and surrenders, further weakening the organization.
