A dramatic fire broke out in a train carrying trash in Mumbai's Kurla area on Thursday evening, disrupting suburban services for a brief period. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm when a coach in the muck special rake, which transports waste collected from tracks and rail lines, caught fire near the Kurla railway station. According to Central Railway officials, the fire was quickly contained, and all necessary measures were taken to douse the flames. However, this required the shutdown of the overhead cable supplying 25,000-volt electricity to trains between Vidyavihar and Sion stations. As a result, rail traffic on the UP Slow line towards CSMT was temporarily suspended until the fire was extinguished. Fortunately, the fire was doused at 8:55 pm, and the overhead cable was restored, allowing train services to resume shortly after. The incident highlights the importance of ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous materials, including waste, on our rail networks.
