At least two flats were destroyed after a massive fire broke out on the 12th floor of a high-rise residential building in Noida's Sector 75 on Friday morning. Fire officials said the blaze was brought under control after several hours with no reported casualties.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus sets to enter the flats and contain the blaze, with officials suspecting a short circuit in an air conditioner or a lamp may have triggered the fire. An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause.
Several videos recorded by residents showed thick smoke billowing from the balcony of a flat on the 12th floor, with officials deploying 42-metre hydraulic platforms to reach the upper floors. The platforms can reach up to the 14th floor.
Meanwhile, another major fire broke out at a restaurant inside a complex in Noida's Sector 52 around 7.45am on Friday. Fire officials rescued 15 people from inside the complex, suspecting a short circuit in a refrigerator may have caused the fire.
