Bhubaneswar, Odisha's government launched a Marine Spatial Plan to promote coastal economic growth while protecting the environment. The plan was signed between the state's science department and the National Centre for Coastal Research.
The MSP will enable scientific marine planning, strengthen the blue economy, and ensure environmental sustainability. It will balance sectoral activities like fisheries, shipping, and tourism with marine biodiversity conservation.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the MSP will boost the blue economy and protect marine ecology. He noted that Odisha's coastal regions are rich in biodiversity and provide abundant natural resources.
The MSP is part of a Sustainable Ocean Planning initiative with Norway, which aims to promote integrated coastal and marine planning. The plan will help meet the needs of fisheries, tourism, and other sectors while protecting marine ecosystems.
