New Delhi: In a bid to enhance accessibility and visual appeal, the Prerna Sthal in the Parliament complex has undergone a massive facelift. The dedicated area, housing 15 statues of national icons and freedom fighters, has been revamped with specialised lighting effects, natural stone pavement, and gentle landscaping. The move aims to provide better public visibility and accessibility, as per the supervision of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The revamp has seen the removal of two short stone boundary walls, initial plans for extensive stone pavement reduced, and the addition of green lawns to facilitate rainwater harvesting. Security cabins have been repainted to blend with the surroundings, and a curved track has been created for visitors. Special lighting effects have been added to provide an enhanced visual experience. The Prerna Sthal features statues of Mahatma Gandhi, BR Ambedkar, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and other national icons. The Ambedkar statue, installed in 1967, remains the oldest in the complex. While the revamp has drawn praise, some critics argue that the relocation of iconic statues, including those of Gandhi and Ambedkar, has reduced their visibility. The new measures, however, aim to strike a balance between accessibility and aesthetics.
