Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hailed the defeat of the amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam as a 'victory of democracy' and accused the Centre of conspiring to change the federal structure of the country in the garb of women's reservation.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that the Opposition was not against reservation for women, but rather the government's intention was to remain in power permanently.

The Congress leader claimed that the BJP has a history of using women's issues as an excuse and that the government wanted to avoid delimitation post the caste census.

Priyanka Gandhi also alleged that the ruling party wanted to do delimitation according to its wishes and that the government would have used women's rights as an excuse to do so.
