Punjab is set to revolutionize its healthcare system with the launch of the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna' on January 15. The ambitious scheme, announced by Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, aims to provide free cashless medical treatment of up to ₹10 lakh to every family in the state. The universal healthcare cover will be extended to all 65 lakh families in Punjab, with no income cap or exclusion criteria. To be eligible, residents must have an Aadhaar card and a voter card. The scheme promises total inclusivity, ensuring that 100% of the state's population is covered. The scheme will be formally rolled out by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on January 15. To facilitate the process, over 9,000 camps will be held for the enrolment of people, who will receive dedicated MMSY health cards. Beneficiaries will have access to a robust network of 824 empanelled hospitals, including 212 public hospitals, eight government of India hospitals, and over 600 private hospitals. The scheme covers around 2,200 medical procedures, including secondary and tertiary care. The scheme has been made possible through an agreement between the State Health Agency, Punjab, and the United India Insurance Company. The insurance company will provide coverage of ₹1,00,000 per family for all 65 lakh families in the state, while the State Health Agency will provide coverage for treatment requirements between ₹1,00,000 and ₹10,00,000. The 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna' is expected to reduce out-of-pocket spending on healthcare in both urban and rural areas, ensuring cashless and paperless treatment for all families in Punjab.
