Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju has clarified that the proportional representation of states in the Lok Sabha will remain unchanged despite the government's bills expanding the strength of the Lok Sabha to 850.
The minister stated that the opposition's concerns about the timing of the bills are unfounded and that the government is committed to implementing women's reservation.
Rijiju emphasized that the increase in seats is necessary due to India's growing population and the need for MPs to represent a smaller number of people.
He also clarified that the delimitation commission will work within the framework given by Parliament and that the proportionate representation from states will remain the same.
The minister appealed to opposition parties not to get confused and assured that everything will be made clear in Parliament.
