Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has come out in support of Karnataka's demolition drive in Bengaluru, which sparked controversy within the party last month. According to Tharoor, the government followed due process and has promised alternative arrangements for affected residents. The MP emphasized that the land belonged to the government and was being used as a garbage dump before the demolitions. "The residents were informed beforehand, and I don't see justice in politicizing the issue solely because the affected people are poor," he said. Tharoor acknowledged that there may be flaws in the shifting process, but noted that the government has committed to finding a solution within six months. "All actions must be carried out legally, and the Karnataka government has done this in accordance with court directions," he added. The controversy began with the eviction of several families from Kogila Layout near Yelahanka on December 20. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan criticized the drive, calling it an example of 'bulldozer raj.' In response, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that the action was unavoidable due to safety concerns. Tharoor, however, defended the government's decision, saying that the land was not suitable for human habitation. While he has not visited Karnataka, he emphasized the need for a balanced approach to the issue. With inputs from agencies
